James Slipp is a baritone, voice teacher, and choir director based in the Boston, MA area.
Currently he serves as Voice and Piano Faculty at Manchester Community Music School in Manchester, NH where he also directs both Queen City Youth Choirs, Voices (grades 2-5) and Concert Choir (Grades 6-12). He also co-directs the Queen City Music and Leadership Program which strives to make private music education affordable to students in grades 6-12 while teaching them valuable musicianship and leadership skills.
As a transgender vocalist, James is dedicated to research and advocacy for transgender singers in vocal music. He has presented his research and experience regarding transmasculine vocal pedagogy at several academic and state conferences.
He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance in 2025 from Keene State College in Keene, NH. As a student at Keene State, James was active as a solo and choral singer at his college and in the community. With his main performance interests including Early music, German Lieder, and Jazz music. He studied voice with Dr. Daniel Carberg and took secondary piano lessons with Dr. Christina Wright-Ivanova.
At Keene State, he sang in Keene Vocal Consort (an Early music ensemble), KSC Concert Choir, Opera Workshop, and Keene Vocal Jazz. James also enjoyed studying vocal pedagogy and composition and played euphonium in KSC Concert Band.
James is deeply passionate about choral music education and advocacy. Serving as Secretary of NHACDA since 2025 and terms as KSC ACDA President and Vice-President while in college. As well as recently representing New Hampshire at NAfME Hill Day in Washington, D.C.
He has routinely collaborated with Zenith Ensemble (Keene, NH) and Viva Bach Festival (Peterborough, NH) as a Bass Scholar. Since 2024, he has also worked on the Executive Board of Zenith Ensemble, a non-profit professional Ensemble based in Keene, NH.
